Westerners tend to treat rice as the most popular staple in China. Since long time ago, it has been taken a significantl place in Chinese cooking. Therefore, a Chinese saying goes, "Even a good cook can not fix a proper meal without rice." Rice is mostly planted in Southern China and it is the staple for most local people. Wheat is planted in most areas of Northern China where it is too cold or to dry too grow rice. As a result, wheat becomes the main crop there. Some people living in China use flour to make bread while most of them use it to make bun or noodle.

            楼主语感是不错的,基本功扎实,比很多国内英语专业的学生好很多。
            一些细节得抠一下,比如cook是人,怎么能和its搭配呢?middle-north是指什么,看不太懂。面粉是flour,不是flower,那个是花粉。

In westerners' minds the food with the Chinese people came up to be rice. In fact, for a long time, it has been a fundamental part of Chinese diet, as the saying goes "a better wife is to been seen at her cooked rice". But Chinese do grow what beside rice such as wheat in the northern part of China because the weather tends to be cold and air is too dry there for the rice to grow up. Most Chinese people will use wheat for making mantous and noodles, though some may prefer to bake it for breads.
